Burn Ban Instated Due to High Winds and Low Precipitation

The citizens of Robertson County were awoken by loud winds and heavy rain on Tuesday, March 4. Most of the county experienced winds of over 40 mph, while Hearne Airport clocked the highest winds in the five-county region at 81 mph at around 7:45 am.
During the regular meeting of the Commissioners Court, later the same day, the commissioners took the advice of Billy Higgins, Robertson County Emergency Management Coordinator, and voted for a two-week burn ban.
"While there is rain in the forecast, the precipitation for the next few days will be very low and the winds are expected to continue for the next few days," explained Huggins. The conditions for potential wildfires in the area are rife and the volunteer fire departments are expecting flare ups in the coming days.
If you would like to help support our volunteers, there's a unique way to help them out. The Anheuser-Busch Emergency Drinking Water for Wildland Firefighters Program provides drinking water to volunteer firefighters in rural areas that protect our communities from wildfires. It's easy to apply and the application period will be open from March 10-16.
This is your chance to apply for a pallet of canned drinking water to help keep your volunteer fire department hydrated during wildfires and other emergencies.
