Jean Ellen Jackson Hunter, 84, of Ferris, Texas passed away peacefully at her home on March 10, 2025. Jean was born April 15, 1940, in White Rock, Texas, to Sedora Mae and Rex Miller Jackson. Her early years were spent on her grandparent's farm, forming her strong love for her family and the Bremond area.

In 1955, while visiting her friends in a nearby town, Jean met David Hunter, a young farmer from Marlin, Texas. It was love at first sight and they eventually wed on May 30, 1956, in Marlin. Their marriage of 62 years was truly a perfect match with David, a man of few words, and Jean, a lady of many words, and ones she wasn’t afraid to tell you either. The couple left Robertson County in 1956 and made their home in several cities before settling in Ferris where they raised their two sons, David and Blaine.

While her given name was Jean, she was known by her family and Ferris as their Memmaw. When her great-grandchildren were born, she also gained the title of “GG”, their “Great Grandma”. She spent years raising children in her home on Campus Street, both her own and countless others who just happened to visit her. Her home eventually became known as, “The Hunter Place” where no matter if you were sick, hungry, or just needed a shoulder to lean on, you could count on her to be there.

Even after the passing of her beloved husband who came to be known as “Papaw”, this love and dedication to her family didn’t change. She continued to raise all her great-grandchildren into their school-aged years with the last one being Knox.

Memmaw had a way of making everyone feel cherished and her legacy will always be the love she had for her family. It was evident in everything she did. From her love for her family’s history, her love for the actual people, to her love for the future of her family through all the lessons she taught us over the years. For all that she has done in our lives and more, she will be greatly missed.

Jean is survived by sons, David Eldon and wife Jenna, and Joel Blaine and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Jessica, Rachel, Nicole, Bryant, and Jordan; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Emery, Atlas, Knox, Landry, Emma, and Jack. She is also survived by her brother, Rex Jackson, and wife, Shirley; along with countless nieces, nephews, and cousins she cherished through the years.

Jean is preceded in death by her husband, David, her parents, Sedora and Rex Jackson, and her beloved grandparents Sidney and Lela Morehead. A service to honor and celebrate Jean’s life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Bremond Funeral Home with Gary Freeman officiating and burial to follow at White Rock Cemetery.
